China, the United States and India continue to lead the global solar market in the first quarter

According to the Solar Energy Industry Association (SEIA), in the first quarter of 2019, China added 5.2 GW of solar PV installed capacity, 2.7 GW in the US, and 1.7 GW in India. The China, the US and India continue to lead the global solar PV market.

As of the end of March 2019, China's solar PV installed capacity has reached a total of 179.7 GW, an increase of 28%. But compared with 9.7 GW in the first quarter of 2018, it fell by nearly 40% in the first quarter of 2019.
 
For the second consecutive quarter, the United States became the second largest solar market in the world after China. In the first quarter, the newly installed PV installed capacity was 2.7 GW, a year-on-year increase of more than 10%, but it was down 37% from the fourth quarter of 2018.
 
According to Mercom India Research's latest solar market report for the first quarter of 2019, solar PV installed capacity in India decreased by 49% in the first quarter of 2019, compared with 3.4 GW in the first quarter of 2018.

Mercom India Research also predicts that India will increase its solar power generation by about 9 GW in 2019 and must increase steadily over the next three years to achieve the goal of 100 GW of solar PV installed capacity by the end of 2022.
